What Is Tinnitus?
Tinnitus is sound perceived without an external source. It may be described as ringing, buzzing, hissing, roaring or clicking.
What can cause it?
Noise-related hearing loss, earwax blockage, infections, hearing changes and some medicines are recognized associations. Sometimes no obvious cause is found.
What can help?
Management depends on the person. CBT can reduce tinnitus-related distress; hearing aids may help when hearing loss coexists. See our tinnitus management hub.
